Job Summary
This part-time position is responsible for the evaluation and identification of fingerprints and providing expert testimony in court proceedings. The employee performs work relative to the operation of the identification section of the Forensic Science Unit and provides technical guidance to other personnel involving evidence collection and identification activities. The employee receives supervision from, and reports directly to, the Supervisor, Forensic Science Unit. Work is evaluated through observations, conferences, and reports. Maximum of 24 hours per week.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Forensics, and sufficient experience as a criminal investigator from previous sworn law enforcement work, or, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- International Association for Identification (IAI) certified Latent Fingerprint Examiner, or be able to meet the minimum qualification for IAI certification.
- Prior experience testifying in court, and the ability to be certified as an expert in the field of fingerprint identification in Maryland courts.
- At least one (1) year experience in the use of automated fingerprint identification systems.
- Ability to document investigation, including the recovery of fingerprints and physical evidence.
- Extensive knowledge of the use of standard crime scene detection and fingerprint identification equipment and material.
