Florida High Risk Retirement Information
The State of Florida recently passed legislation that extends high risk
category retirement benefits to individuals not formerly covered by those
provisions. One of the qualifiers for that benefit is that individuals must
provide documentation of eligibility for Active Membership in the International
Association for Identification. The process to obtain that documentation
is as follows:
The individual or their employer must send a letter to the IAI office and that letter must:
- Be on the official letterhead of the employing agency
- Signed by a senior executive of that agency. Examples of an acceptable signer would be a police chief, sheriff or undersheriff, personnel director, etc.
- The letter must state the person's name and job title.
- The package MUST include an official position description or synopsis of the job title. It cannot, for example, say something as general as "handles evidence."
- Agencies may submit multiple names and positions in one letter. One position description for each of the positions must be included but it is not necessary to have a separate description for each individual if the positions are the same.
The IAI will reply to the sender with a letter stating the names of the individuals and whether that person is eligible for Active Membership in the IAI.
