[filmscanners] Kodachrome puzzle (laquer?!) 1970 vintage

This is a 4000 dpi crop of a sky:

<http://www.spacemoo.com:/ContaxList/Kodachromepuzzle.jpg>

I'm trying to figure out what caused this type of mosaicing in some
Kodachrome slides I've been scanning. Is this indicative of the laquer
referred to here:

<http://www.historicphotoarchive.com/f1/clean_kodachrome.htm>

(though it is of much later vintage -- 1970 processed in Lausanne, CH).

Any ideas what is causing this (haven't seen it on Kodachrome of recent
vintage) and how to overcome this? (gaussian blurs will remove the detail in
other parts of the picture).

thx

D.
