I will give that a try when I get home.  Perhaps it is also worth hooking the
scanner up to the other Firewire card and seeing if that helps.

<<With Windows XP go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware ->
Device Manager.  That produces a list of devices that are
part of your system.  Select the device, right click to
produce a drop down box and select "Properties."  That will
tell you if the device is functioning properly.  If it's
not, you can click the "troubleshoot" button to walk through
some basic diagnostics.
