Have you actually experienced scanner noise that you've been able to trace
to power lines?

It was recently recommended to me to get a power line filter (?RFI) to
ensure
that power line interference is not a source of scanner noise.  I am not
particularly electrically inclined so was not quite sure exctly what to get.
I stopped at Radio Shack and they did not seem to have any specific RFI
filter.  I was able to pick up for 16 bucks a piece they call a combined
noise filter and surge protector.  It plugs into the outlet and acts as a
typical surge protector but also says that it 'filters the electromagnetic
interference and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) coming through
electrical lines from outside sources.  It states that it filters to 40dB
(100kHz to 100MHz)

Is this going to do the trick?  Is it useful?
