[filmscanners] RE: Why "raw" files?

Think of the "raw" file as a dump of the data from the scanner. Think of
everything else you do (your settings) in VueScan as applying a set of
"filters" or "transformations" to this data. When you save a "crop" file,
you save a "manipulated" version based on your settings.

If you keep the raw file around, you can change the manipulated version of
it later on. Maybe because you change what you have in mind, or the tools
are improved, or new tools are added. You could also just go back and
re-scan, and start again from there, but it's faster and easier to open up
the old "raw" file, if you have an easy way to keep it around.
