It would be interesting to know if the loaner suffers from the banding in
the red channel shadow areas using the Minolta software.  If you do get
a moment, could you do a scan of an underexposed slide and have a
look at the red channel.  The red channel banding is normally quite
clear even without pushing up the gamma.

If the loaner gets a clean bill of health, I wonder if Minolta have "tuned"
units which go out to reviewers and developers?  After all, all the
reviews of the Elite II I have seen so far have been positive....

Incidentally, you might want to know that the keystroke Ctrl-Shift-i in
the Minolta software forces the unit to recalibrate.  Might be useful
when you look into the calibration within Vuescan.
