filmscanners: How Big is Really Necessary?




Reading about people with 1.75GB Ram bringing their systems to their
knees with 500MB scanned images makes me wonder, "Where is the point of
diminishing returns?"

We screen print posters that are 22x28 and the printer only wants a
100MB image file.  They look great.

While I know there are higher resolution output formats that demand more
information, how much of this "bigger is better syndrome" is people with
hardware lust just wanting the play with the newest / biggest toys?
