Re: filmscanners: Do I need Digital ICE? & Scanner selection Advice

I used to own the Canoscan 2710 and still recommend it highly. I used it
mostly with Vuescan, because that interface made more sense. Someone else
mentioned that it gets middling to poor reviews, but that was not my
experience with it, and part of why I bought it was the rave in Shutterbug
magazine, where the reviewer (David Brooks) admitted he was purchasing the
review unit. I have no experience with the Minolta Dual or Acer, so this
isn't a direct recommendation. BTW, I traded up to a Minolta Elite, due
mostly to it's IDE and single pass multi sampling capapbility. I think B&H
now has it for only slightly north of your $500 budget, if you already have
a SCSI card. David Hemmingway makes a strong case also or the Polaroid
SS4000, but even after rebate it sounds like it is over your budget (but the
inclusion of Silverfast is tempting).

So in short, all I can say is that I believe the Canon offers exceptional
performance at it's price and for it's specs.
