I've never yet seen one where this really is the case. CRT's just seem to 
be inherently non-linear in the darkest tones, and in a way which isn't 
amenable to simple gamma correction. I know that closed-loop calibration 
(ie with a colorimeter puck) should be able to fix this, but it doesn't 
seem to.
