You might be interested to read the tests/reviews of 7 scanners in Popular 
Photography, July 2001. They rated the SpintScan 120 most highly, the Nikon 
CoolScan 4000 very favorably, and the Nikon CoolScanIV as a real bargain.  
They did not examine the LS8000.  They report on color accuracy, resolution, 
shadow detail, highlight detail, image quality rating, and speed.
