FWIW Ed has always tended to subscribe this list for a while and then
unsubscribe for a while. He's been through that cycle several times. My guess :
he has too much to read and do, and likes to shift his attention from time to
time to where it seems most useful. I expect he'll reappear at some point.

I'm a bit taken aback at the apparent cynicism attributed to Ed's motives. It
doesn't reflect my view: that this sort of relationship between mfrs and users
is wholly creative and symbiotic and to be encouraged : both parties gain. Mfrs
are less able to get away with an unresponsive attitude on the net, but the
plus side for them (and there has to be one) is intelligence about how to
improve their product to be what users really want. Vuescan has improved
massively and very rapidly, IMO, partly as a result -- so what is there to
complain about? Ed's made some money, we've got a better prog. This seems fair
to me.

As I've said before, every time a protracted OT thread develops, people don't
complain, they unsubscribe in droves. Most are lurkers, so it goes unnoticed
except by the bloke who monitors the list membership.

Anyhow, I also get complaints about the unreasonable volume of msgs about
Vuescan and Polaroid:)
