It's an excellent scanner. The images are some of the best I've seen
from any scanner and the scanner seems basically like an LS-30 with
a bit higher resolution and 12-bits per sample. The LS-40 focuses
faster than the LS-30. The LS-40 makes a bit more noise than the
LS-30/LS-2000 while scanning, but less noise while focusing.

The strip film adapter is nicer than the one in the LS-30/LS-2000. It
doesn't wind up the film in the back of the adapter, but instead has
room in the back of the scanner for a full 6-frame strip to be held
(this is why the LS-40/LS-4000 is longer than the LS-30/LS-2000).

The APS adapter is the same for the LS-30/LS-2000 and the
LS-40/LS-4000.

Ed Hamrick
